TD Ameritrade offers the best trading platform for independent investors. The command center offers simple, yet precise trading which can be exercised with a single click of the mouse. Also, the iPhone’s iStock manager is probably the easiest to use application available for mobile users.
I have tried ETrade and Zecco as well. ETrade’s platform is above average, but does not offer nearly as many perks as TD Ameritrade, however they offer better deals for high volume traders. Avoid Zecco at all costs!!! Their site is extremely slow and will outright crash on every high volume day. If the market capitulates, you will be hard pressed to get in or out of positions. Stick to the professional brokerage sites.
TD Ameritrade is definitely shown itself as a solid platform, but is it really worth it to pay more than double per trade compared to Zecco? when its all the same in terms of buying and selling shares of stock

TD Ameritrade lost my business today… platform was down during this morning when I was trying to make some trades, while I was able to make trades in my Scottrade account.
Ameritrade(bought our accounts from Waterhouse) is proving to be a fee stealer, a fee disguiser, and unresponsive to email complaints. They have yet to respond to 3 seperate emails which were sent 2 days ago and yesterday.
Their web presentation is unreadable, and signins often fail.
I like the new streaming quotes platform that is now included, since they have acquired think or swim.
But they are still expensive… although if you call them up they will match Scottrades $7 trades most of the time.
I use Ameritrade streaming datafeed for Quotetracker and Ninjatrader. I’ve seen better reliability and speed but the free price for real-time prices can’t be beat via $2k account with Ameritrade.
Tech support is poor so don’t expect much. Feed was down most of this morning but didn’t get notified they were having problems until late in the afternoon. As of this evening, feed is still shaky at best.
I just wish they hadn’t taken over Quotetracker . . don’t see much improvements in that program as Ameritrade will probably push their own subscription platforms . . which are inferior.
TD Ameritrade down right when you need it!
