Naked Hedge Fund New Addition

Some of you have noticed the new addition on the right sidebar, which is another step towards the nakedness around here.  Im showing my Equity Long/Short S&P portfolio.  Let me break down both the widget (box that you see) and the portfolio starting with the widget:

  • Starting from the top, Stockalicious.com is a website where you can keep your transactions that you make and it keeps track of your performance and allows you to share as I have done.   Its a cool site in that it provides this ability free, but it does seem pretty bare bones lately and seems to have lost its support group…. so we will have to see how long it lasts.
  • Next down the widget is “nakedhedgefund portfolio” in black font.  This is a link to stockalicious.com to see my portfolio unfortunately I have to keep this private until I get all the legal stuff in order.  I’ll talk more about the portfolio a bit later.
  • Next down is “nakedhedgefund” in grey this is just my user name at stockalicious that they display
  • Now were getting into some of the good stuff.  These charts represent the NHF portfolio (Black) vs. S&P 500 (Grey)
  • The rest is pretty self explanatory, but below that is “Past 7m” which is just stockalicous’s way of saying the YTD then the value of the portfolio, which I will get into more below.
  • Just below that is the portfolio’s performance real time, which updates dynamically during market hours.  And wrapped up by a dynnamic display of the big 3 U.S. indices.

Portfolio:

  • I know most of you are more interested in this compared to the silly widget talk.
  • This portfolio is my mid range portfolio that has an active approach and is Equity Long/Short S&P.  In layman’s terms I’m either long the S&P or short the S&P and I use SPY as my equity.  (For stockalicous I am using SH for the short side because they don’t have the capability to short)
  • This portfolio is actively managed, but I have only had 6 days of trading on it so far this year.  On those 6 days I would go either full long or full short.  (12 trades total so far this year)
  • This year has been an exceptional year for this portfolio because of the long trends that we have had in the S&P.   Mainly short the beginning of the year and then long from March on, June/July chop entered and took away from my gains.
  • I have been very pleased with the performance so far and as you can see in the chart comparison with the S&P 500 I am blowing it out of the water because of the initial shorting at the beginning of year and catching a good chunk of the rally.  I wasn’t able to catch the entire rally because I was very skeptical even though the charts were telling me to get in.  So I got into the rally March 16th and missed the March 9th low.
  • So far this year I have outperformed all of the Barclay Hedge Fund Indices

Hopefully you like this addition to the site and I’m working (Getting the lawyer happy) on adding a trading desk page where I will show the transactions that I make for this portfolio.    Although it may not be too exciting in that there has only been 6 days where there has been trades made this year on this portfolio I think that it would be beneficial and move toward the direction that I wanted for this site which is a “Naked Hedge Fund”
